August 1–9—Denver Days
Mayor Michael B. Hancock started the annual Denver Days for neighbors to get to know one another and get involved in their communities. This year it takes place Aug. 1–9 and includes block parties, service projects and more. As part of the program, Councilman Chris Herndon is hosting a family bike ride on Sat., Aug. 8 from Founders Green in Stapleton to the Smiley Campus in Park Hill. Open to everyone. August 7–November 1—LEGO Art at Denver Zoo
Beginning Friday, Aug. 7, 35 LEGO sculptures by LEGO artist Sean Kenney will be scattered throughout Denver Zoo. The LEGO sculptures will include a 400-pound bumble, a hummingbird with an 8-foot wingspan, koi fish and lily pads, a fox hunting a rabbit, and a bison and calf. August 8—Support Rural Kenya at Park Hill Hub
SCOPE (Schools in Communities Offering Programs that Empower), a Denver-based nonprofit that supports rural Kenya, will host a fundraiser 6–9pm on Saturday, Aug. 8 at the Park Hill Hub, 1502 Ivanhoe. The night will include wine, appetizers and live music on the patio. August 22—Global Fest in Aurora
To celebrate its diversity and get the large immigrant and refugee population more involved, Aurora will host its first Global Fest on Saturday, Aug. 22 outside the Aurora Municipal Building, 15151 E. Alameda Pkwy. From 2 to 8pm, there will be continuous performances like Chinese lion dancing and mariachi bands.
